“For by Him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible…”
Ecclesiastes 9:10
"For by Him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible..."
I Colossians 1:16a
If you forced me to describe the last 6 to 8 months of life, the word I would choose to encompass it all would be “distracted.” We’ve been shorthanded through gains in momentum at obscure places and short tempered as life seems to pass us by while our bread and butter business changes direction, and the mission becomes interrupted from my “worry” about what’s next. Spiritual attacks have run rampant and arrows have pierced from every direction, and Satan’s schemes of lies, trickery and wickedness have only increased in repetition, pulling me away from an attitude of intimacy and gratefulness.
What I have lacked is a good memory. I have forgotten that like Hannah I too have a great song to sing. I have forgotten to read the psalms, reminding myself just as king David did of the daily benefits that come from serving a holy God. Like Joshua, I have forgotten to set myself a permanent marker of “stones” signaling the need for more one on One. And first and foremost, I have forgotten Who it was that paid for all of this on Calvary and why.
There is no doubt I do my best work when I remember God alone is Creator and He alone is Controller. He owns every bit of this, from the mustard seed to the sequoia, from the face of Everest to the expanse of the Great Barrier Reef and no matter how loud the noise of the world is, I must remember it is just another fruitless distraction. Seeking His kingdom first and understanding “in Him all things are held together” is paramount and yields the only life worth living, and the only diversion worth pursuing.
