‘Likewise, the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark.’ James 3:5
I was asked the other day to engage in a political discussion. I was asked to express my thoughts and opinions about what is going on in the world today. When I declined to engage, the person making the request began to berate me a bit. While this did hit a nerve, I remained firm in my reasoning and firm with my response as to why I would not engage in the conversation.
I have lost count how many times I have destroyed somebody with my tongue. Jesus is clear in scripture. Fresh and saltwater cannot come from the same spring. I cannot preach and praise God and also tear down my fellow neighbor. Likewise, I cannot do Christlike things on Sunday and then live like hell on Monday-Saturday.
Friends, be encouraged. It is never too late to turn back. The Gospel is the home of second chances. The Gospel is the home of forgiveness. Jesus Christ has the final say and like the thief on the cross paradise awaits for those that surrender.
