“He has sent me to preach the good story to the poor, heal the heartbroken, announce the freedom to all of the captives and release from darkness, the prisoners…” Isaiah 61:1b
As I look back at this past week and try to fathom God’s faithfulness in His impeccable timing, provision and protection of the resources that entered and exited our gates, I’m reminded, again of why He sent his son to die a sinner’s death in the first place. He did not abandon His son for the Trey that sings hymns and raises his hands in praise and worship. He did not send His son to the cross for the Trey that speaks softly to his wife and proclaims the Good News on social media and within the confines of his vocation. He did not allow the nails in His son’s wrist for the Trey that is above board on his taxes, speaks in angelic tones to his delivery drivers and responds patiently when chaos erupts. That would make sense and be far too easy.
On the contrary, Jesus went to the cross for the broken, self-destructive, difficult, conflicting, sinning, short-tempered, abusive and fallen Trey. Despite the number of times, I went over the handlebars and hit the pavement, nose first, and the number of times I got up and did it again, like a dog returning to its vomit, my Savior still chose to show up and come through on my behalf. The 2% success rate of the highlight reel above did not buy my ticket into heaven. His mercies remained new, His love did not waver, His faithfulness grew greater by the day and because of His actions on Calvary, this penniless prodigal will go home one day. And this my friends, is the best news ever.
